The YF-19: Thruster and Joystick

I just had a daunting question: do pilots call their flying stick “joystick”? Or is it just for gaming, even though it looks exactly the same?

You can tell I’m enjoying myself by the amount of pics I’m rendering each time 🙂

I have another stupid geeky thing to point out: In the movie and OVAs, Isamu pushes the rudder pedals and then we see the thrusting vector nozzles rotating the plane. It looks awesome. But it’s wrong! In a normal jet fighter – or any plane for that matter – the rudder pedals control the yaw, not the roll (they make the plane turn sideways like around a corner, not upside-down, if the concepts of yaw and roll are strange to you).

So by pressing the rudder pedals, the YF-19 would maybe break like the plane in Hot Shots!, but to make the nozzles roll it, it’s only with the stick.
